8 Fiber Plenum MPO Cables
8 Fiber Plenum MPO cables are most often used to establish 40G (40GBASE-SR4) connections between a pair of QSFP+ transceivers. The introduction of the QSFP28 optical transceiver also enables these high performance fiber cables to transfer at 100G (100GBASE-SR4) rates. Alternative uses include the consolidation of various fiber panels to a centralized location in order for easier redistribution.
All 8 fiber MPO cables feature OptoSpan’s new and exclusive FiberShield design. The FiberShield design uses three times the PVC jacket and DuPont Kevlar to protect the delicate optical fibers located inside the cables, resulting in a flexible yet robust 4.5mm cable that is 5x stronger than the standard 3.0mm cable.
8 Fiber Plenum MPO Cables are intended for use in the spaces between walls, ceilings, and floors otherwise known as Plenum areas. Plenum areas are often used to transport conditioned air to inhabited rooms, they are also commonly used to host networking cables. Building safety regulations require these Plenum areas to contain only Plenum (OFNP) rated cabling due to their increased resistance to fire. Plenum (OFNP) rated cabling uses a non-conductive fire-retardant insulation and contains zero metallic components unless stated. Plenum MPO cables help in the prevention of electrical fires, slows the advancement of flames, and production of smoke in the event of combustion.
