MPO Breakout Cables are the most economical multifiber solution provided by OptoSpan. Each MPO Breakout Cable is available with 8 to 144 fibers and are most commonly used to assist in upgrading existing 10G networks to higher performing 40G and 100G rates. Higher performing options are available and include the standard MTP and MTP Elite connectors developed by US Conec. Each MTP fiber cable is able to create less insertion loss, thereby preserving the integrity of each connection and delivering much performance than traditional MPO fiber cables.

Every 8, 12 and 24 fiber MPO Breakout Cable feature new and exclusive FiberShield technology. This new advancement adds up to 3x the amount of PVC and DuPont Kevlar, resulting in a 4.5mm thick cable 5x stronger than standard 3.0mm jacketing. FiberShield is most useful during installation runs; the additional protective material reduces the possibility of breakages and ensures each associated network is up and running in the absolute shortest time.

MPO Fiber Cables with a higher density are essentially combinations of the above mentioned fibers. For example, a 48 fiber MPO cable is available in the following standard configurations; a set of two 24 fiber connectors or a set of four 12 fiber connectors. This allows high density cables to be compatible with existing and future hardware while also providing a pathway for future upgrades once installed. Custom configurations are available upon request and may include cable length, fiber count, and permutations of fibers.

MPO Fiber Cable configurations include the following:

8 Fiber – Often found in QSFP+ to QSFP+ solutions, each cable delivers a reliable 40G (40GBASE-SR4) signal. Alternative applications include interconnecting fiber patch panels, although higher density fiber cables are most often used due to being more cost effective.

12 Fiber – The most popular cable in terms of fiber density and usability, these cables are most often found interconnecting high density fiber patch panels in order to consolidate the fibers to a centralized location. Additional applications include establishing direct 40G (40GBASE-SR4) links in between two high performance transceivers, such as the QSFP+ units.

24 Fiber – This high density connector is gaining in popularity due to its ability to deliver up to three individual 40G signals, a single 100G signal, or a 120G signal when connected to high performance transceivers, such as the CXP series. 24 fiber MPO cables are the most cost effective in terms of fiber strands due to this feature, it allows network administrators to intelligently structure systems to leverage each and every fiber strand.
