MPO Fiber Cables

MPO Fiber Cables

MTP FiberShield Specifications

OptoSpan MPO cable assemblies use MPO (Multi-Fiber Push On) connectors on one or both ends. MPO is a multi-fiber connector that integrates eight, twelve, or twenty-four fibers into a single ferrule, allowing for the high-density deployment of high-speed LAN and data center applications in a single ferrule configuration.  100G MPO Patch Cables with 24 strands offer more than 12 times the fiber density of LC or SC cables in the same footprint.

MPO Fiber Cables are OptoSpan's most cost-effective multifiber networking option. These MPO to MPO cables, which range in fiber count from 8 to 144, are capable of moving enormous volumes of data fast and efficiently. Typically used to link QSFP+ or QSFP-DD transceivers or high density patch panels ranging in speed from 40G to 400G. Each MPO patch cord can be configured with either pinned (male) or unpinned (female) connectors. Available in lengths ranging from one to three hundred meters. Additional lengths are available on a custom basis. Alternative high-performance MPO cables are also available with a higher-performance version of the MPO connector called the MTP connector and MTP Elite connector, by US Conec.

OptoSpan's MPO fiber optic cable assemblies with 8, 12, and 24 fibers all incorporate FiberShield technology. This innovation doubles the amount of PVC and DuPont Kevlar in each cable jacket. As a result, the cable is only 1.5mm thicker than conventional jacketing but is 5 times stronger.

FiberShield MPO fiber cables from OptoSpan are the strongest in the industry!

FiberShield MPO Fiber Cables: OptoSpan's 8-, 12-, and 24-strand MPO Patch Cables offer exclusive FiberShield technology that is 5 times stronger than those of rivals' MPO patch cords, as well as 3 times the amount of PVC and DuPont Kevlar. These MPO patch cords have a thickness of 4.5mm or 3.0mm, which helps to protect them from the common damage that occurs during installation.

Many critical factors influence cable selection, including the type of network optics, the number of fibers, the polarity of the cable, the type of MPO connector, and the type of fiber media (single-mode or multimode). Prior to placing an order, please contact us if you have any questions or need assistance.

  • 40G MPO Patch Cables commonly employ 8 fiber multimode or single mode cables, depending on the QSFP+.
  • 100G MPO Patch Cables often use 8 fiber, 12 fiber or 24 fiber multimode or single mode cables, depending on the QSFP28, CFP or CXP type.
  • 400G MPO Patch Cables often use 8 fiber or 16 fiber multimode or single mode cables, depending on the QSFP-DD type.

MPO Fiber Cable Types:

  • 8 Strand MPO to MPO Cables are generally used to connect QSFP+ transceivers, requiring 4 send and 4 receive lanes.  Use multimode 40G MPO fiber cables for the following applications.
    • 40G MPO Fiber Cable:  Required for direct 40G network connection between two 40GBASE-SR4 QSFP+ transceivers.
    • 100G MPO Fiber Cable:  Required for direct 100G network connection between two 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 transceivers.
    • 400G MPO Fiber Cable:  Required for direct 400G network connections between two 400GBASE-SR8 QSFP-DD transceivers.
  • 12 Strand MPO to MPO Cables are generally used for 40G, 100G and 400G trunk and backbone applications.  The following applications require single mode 40G and 400G MPO fiber cables.
    • 40G MPO Fiber Cable:  Required for direct 40G network connection between two 40GBASE-PSM4 or 40GBASE-PLR4 QSFP+ transceivers.
    • 400G MPO Fiber Cable:  Required for direct 400G network connection between two 400GBASE-DR4 or 400GBASE-PLR4 QSFP-DD transceivers.
  • 24 Strand MPO to MPO Cables are generally used for high-density trunk and 100G applications.
    • 100G MPO Fiber Cable:  Required for direct 100G network connections between two 100GBASE-SR10 CFP or CXP transceivers.
  • 48 Strand MPO to MPO Cables can be any combination of the 8, 12 or 24 strand MPO fiber cables mentioned above.  These 48 strand MPO Optical Cables can be configured with 8 fiber, 12 fiber, or 24 fiber MPO connectors.
  • 72 Strand MPO to MPO Cables can be any combination of the 8, 12 or 24 strand MPO fiber cables mentioned above.  These 72 strand MPO Optical Cables can be configured with 8 fiber, 12 fiber, or 24 fiber MPO connectors.
  • 96 Strand MPO to MPO Cables can be any combination of the 8, 12 or 24 strand MPO fiber cables mentioned above.  These 96 strand MPO Optical Cables can be configured with 8 fiber, 12 fiber, or 24 fiber MPO connectors.
  • 144 Strand MPO to MPO Cables can be any combination of the 8, 12 or 24 strand MPO fiber cables mentioned above.  These 144 strand MPO Optical Cables can be configured with 8 fiber, 12 fiber, or 24 fiber MPO connectors.

Quality and Engineering Excellence

By utilizing our proprietary manufacturing process developed over 15 years of experience, we are able to produce higher performance products using the same components, hence lowering the cost to our clients. OptoSpan cables are made in a Class 10,000 (ISO14644-1, ISO7) clean room facility, which eliminates the potential of end face contamination.

Rohs Compliant

Quality Management Systems

  • ISO 9001: 2008
  • TL9000 (Ver. 5)

Standards Compliance

  • Telcordia GR-326 Core
  • TIA-604-18: FOCIS 18
  • IEC 61754-7-3:2019

OptoSpan fiber optic cables are RoHS compliant.

Cleaning and Testing MPO Fiber Cables

All fiber end-faces, including MPO Connectors, should be cleaned before each installation. Because of its higher surface area, cleaning MPO Connectors may be more difficult. While cleaning these larger surface areas, pollutants are much more easily transmitted from one fiber to the next within the same array.

OptoSpan advises utilizing these easy MPO Connector cleaners to clean MPO Fiber Cables before each insertion.

OptoSpan provides a simple MPO tester for debugging MPO Optical Cable connections (fiber breaks or flaws) during installation or discovering issues during normal operation.
