8 Fiber Plenum MPO Breakout

8 Fiber Plenum MPO Breakout Cables

MTP FiberShield Specifications

8 Fiber Plenum MPO Breakout cables utilize the most economical multifiber connector currently available, the MPO connector. Often found in high performance networks, the MPO connector was originally developed to reduce the amount of individual connections and is most commonly used to upgrade 10G networks to 40G (40GBASE-SR4) and 100G (100GBASE-SR4) rates. The MPO connector may be used with high performance optical transceivers such as the QSFP+, QSFP28, CXP, CPAK, and CFP units.

All 8 fiber MPO cables feature OptoSpan’s new and exclusive FiberShield design. The FiberShield design uses three times the PVC jacket and DuPont Kevlar to protect the delicate optical fibers located inside the cables, resulting in a flexible yet robust 4.5mm cable that is 5x stronger than the standard 3.0mm cable.

A common installation practice involves running networking cables through Plenum areas in order to easily access all floors and rooms of a building. The use of standard cabling in Plenum areas poses a safety risk due to their release of toxic smoke and little resistance to the advancement of flames during combustion. Building safety regulations therefore require all cabling installed in these areas to be Plenum (OFNP) rated, which results in significantly less smoke produced and slows the production of flames throughout the internal infrastructure of a building.
