MPO Patch Cords are the most economical multi-fiber solution that OptoSpan has to offer. These cables combine 8 to 144 individual fibers in a single assembly. This greatly reduces the overall cost and setup time for complex fiber optic networks. These MPO Patch Cords have Plenum rated insulation, designed to be fire-retardant and emit sufficiently less smoke.
All 8, 12 and 24 fiber MPO patch cords feature OptoSpan’s new and exclusive FiberShield design. The FiberShield design uses three times the PVC jacket and DuPont Kevlar. This protects the delicate optical fibers located inside the cables. Resulting in a flexible yet robust 4.5mm cable that is 5x stronger than the standard 3.0mm cable.
The Plenum line of MPO fiber cable assemblies are intended to meet certain building regulations for fire resistant cabling. Best installed in areas which may not be suitable for standard fiber optic cables. Such as the inner walls or ceilings of a building. The Plenum material is fire-retardant and allows for less smoke to be produced in the unfortunate case of a fire. In cases which fiber optic cabling need only be installed along outer floors or outside of buildings, standard riser jackets or armored jackets may be a more appropriate solution.
Plenum MPO patch cords with higher fiber densities feature a combination of MPO 12 fiber and 24 fiber connectors. This solution allows a wider range of compatibility with common networking devices. Such as high performing QSFP+ and CXP transceivers for 40G and 100G rates. Custom configurations are available upon special request.
Plenum MPO patch cord configurations include the following:
MPO 8 Fiber – Commonly used to create 40G (40GBASE-SR4) links between a set of QSFP+ transceivers. Alternative applications include connecting fiber patch panels. Although MPO 12 fiber cables are preferred.
MPO 12 Fiber – Perhaps the most abundant cable in the industry. 12 fiber MPO patch cords are most often used to as trunk connections in between fiber patch panels. Alternative uses include establishing 40G links using a QSFP+ to QSFP+ setup.
MPO 24 Fiber – Gaining in popularity, the 24 fiber connector can carry up to three individual 40G (40GBASE-SR4) signals across a single connector pair. Using the same cabling infrastructure, 24 fiber connectors may transport a single 100G (100GBASE-SR10) or 120G signal. This allows networking architects to create a ‘future-proof’ solution able to satisfy current and future performance requirements.
