MTP Fiber Cables

MTP FiberShield Specifications

OptoSpan MTP fiber optic cable assemblies use US Conec’s high performance MTP connectors. MTP is a multi-fiber connector that integrates eight, twelve, or twenty-four fibers into a single ferrule, allowing for the high-density deployment of high-speed LAN and data center applications in a single ferrule configuration.

Compared to ordinary MPO connectors, the MTP connector is a high performance MPO connector with various developed product modifications to improve optical and mechanical performance. All MPO connector standards, including TIA-604-5 FOCIS 5, IEC 61754-7-1, and IEC 61754-7-2, are fully supported by the MTP connector. The MTP connector is compatible with all generic MPO-style connectors that meet these industry requirements. Generic MPO connectors are limited in performance and cannot provide the high levels of performance that the US Conec MTP connector can.

MTP Fiber Cables are OptoSpan's highest performance multifiber networking option. These MTP to MTP cables, with fiber count ranging from 8 to 144, are capable of transporting massive amounts of data quickly and efficiently. Typically used to connect QSFP+ or QSFP-DD transceivers or high-density patch panels with a maximum data rate of 800G, each MTP to MTP patch cable is available in pinned (male) or unpinned (female) connector configurations. MTP assemblies are available in-stock in a variety of lengths ranging from one to three hundred meters.  For more information, please see our main MTP Cables page.

OptoSpan’s FiberShield technology is used in all of OptoSpan's MTP patch cable assemblies with 8, 12, and 24 fibers. Each cable jacket now has double the quantity of PVC and DuPont Kevlar. As a result, the cable is only 1.5mm thicker yet five times stronger than standard jacketing.

OptoSpan's MTP fiber cables are the strongest available in the industry!

MTP Fiber Optic Cables with FiberShield: OptoSpan's 8-, 12-, and 24-strand MTP to MTP Cables have an innovative FiberShield technology that is five times stronger than that of competitors' MTP patch cables and contains three times the PVC and DuPont Kevlar. These MTP patch cords are 4.5mm or 3.0mm thick, which helps protect them from frequent installation damage.

How do you choose which MTP Trunk Cable is best for your application?

Numerous key parameters, including the kind of network optics, the quantity of fibers, the polarity of the cable, the type of MTP connection, and the type of fiber media (single-mode or multimode), all influence MTP patch cable selection. Please contact us prior to placing an order if you have any queries or require assistance.

  • 40G MTP Trunk Cables often employ eight fibers multimode or single mode cables to support QSFP+ applications.
  • 100G MTP Trunk Cables are frequently made up of eight, twelve, or twenty-four multimode or single mode fibers, depending on the QSFP28, CFP, or CXP type.
  • 400G MTP Trunk Cables are frequently configured with eight or sixteen multimode or single mode fibers, depending on the QSFP-DD type.

MTP Fiber Cable Availability:

  • 8 Strand MTP to MTP Cables are typically used to connect QSFP+ transceivers, which require four transmit and four receive lanes. The following applications require 40G multimode MTP cables.
    • 40G MTP Fiber Cable:  Required for direct connection of two 40GBASE-SR4 QSFP+ transceivers in a 40G network.
    • 100G MTP Fiber Cable:  Required for direct connecting of two 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 transceivers in a 100G network.
    • 400G MTP Fiber Cable:  Required for direct connecting of two 400GBASE-SR8 QSFP-DD transceivers in a 400G network.
  • 12 Strand MTP to MTP Cables are typically utilized for trunk and backbone applications at speeds of 40G, 100G, and 400G. The following applications require single mode MTP connections with a data rate of 40G or 400G.
    • 40G MTP Fiber Cable:  Required for direct connection of two 40GBASE-PSM4 or 40GBASE-PLR4 QSFP+ transceivers in a 40G network.
    • 400G MTP Fiber Cable:  Required for direct connection of two 400GBASE-DR4 or 400GBASE-PLR4 QSFP-DD transceivers in a 400G network.
  • 24 Strand MTP to MTP Cables are typically utilized for high-density trunk and 100G applications.
    • 100G MTP Fiber Cable:  Required for direct connection of two 100GBASE-SR10 CFP or CXP transceivers in a 100G network.
  • 48 Strand MTP to MTP Cables can be any combination of the above-mentioned 8, 12, or 24 strand MTP fiber optic cable assemblies. For example, these 48-strand MTP to MTP optical cables are available with four 12-fiber MTP connection configurations or two 24-fiber MTP connector combinations (12x4 or 24x2).

MTP Fiber Cable Cleaning and Testing

All fiber end-faces, including MTP Connectors, should be cleaned before each installation. Because of its higher surface area, cleaning MTP Connectors may be more difficult. While cleaning these larger surface areas, pollutants are much more easily transmitted from one fiber to the next within the same array.

OptoSpan advises utilizing these easy MTP Connector cleaners to clean MTP Patch Cables before each insertion.

OptoSpan provides a simple MTP Fiber tester for debugging MTP fiber networks (fiber breaks or flaws) during installation or discovering issues during normal operation.
